Hair Loss Remedies From Ancient Times

From a very early time, men have tried their best to come up with some hair loss treatment. Various countries have tried various methods to combat the problem of hair loss. The treatment used to be unique from country to country, and was made from natural products. The men of ancient Africa used to dip down flowers in Olive oil to produce hair tonics with nice fragrances. Also, they used Avocado leaves to prepare infusions that proved beneficial for treating problems related to scalp and hair loss.

Speaking about the Egyptians, there, the people used to apply patches of chopped lettuce on areas with bald spots. They used to associate lettuce with virility and their god Min. They also prepared a treatment for scalp massage from the extracts of the Fir tree, whereby the resin was extracted and then gently massaged on the scalp. They also made a mixture of Castor Oil and Almond Oil that helped in the growth of hair. Besides, it gave out a soothing fragrance and made it spread on the scalp easily. They loved long hair so much so that they used to make wigs from sheep's wool or human hair. We can see that from an ancient time, people have been really very conscious about their hair.

During the period of Victorian America, people used to treat their hair loss by preparing a particular mixture. This mixture was composed of tincture of cantharides, essence of camphor, and cologne. They used to apply this mixture to their hair roots regularly. There was another preventive measure that included making a mixture of tincture of cantharides along with Jamaica Rum, Distilled Water, Ammonia Sesqui-Carbonate, Oil of Rosemary, and Glycerine. Also, they put a great emphasis on vigorously brushing their hair everyday. They believed that a hard brush would keep their hair shiny and soft. On the other hand, a brush with soft bristles was supposed to enhance the growth of hair.

The Taiwano Indians of the rainforests of South America (The Amazon) used a unique way of treating their scalp problems. They used to treat it with the heated extract of banana. The practitioners of Ayurveda in India used to put leaves of the sage plant in coconut oil and boil them. This produced a blackened residue. This blackened residue was applied both to the scalp as well as the hair. This helped in stimulating the growth and natural pigmentation of the scalp. Apart from this, another method that was used by the Indians was combining coconut milk and Fenugreek powder and a dash of black pepper. Fenugreek is something that helps fight hair loss. Another method used in India was Amla Oil that was mixed with coconut oil and then boiled. This was then applied to the scalp and worked well as a tonic for hair growth.
